What motivates you every day?

Trying to keep up with the surprises markets and events provide.

If you could instantly master one skill, what would it be?

The ability to quickly process complex, conflicting info into clear, high conviction decisions.

What is a career "low point" that actually set you up for success?

Early in my career I ran a discretionary macro strategy built around volatility and dislocation — it performed well during the GFC when price discovery was broken and spreads were wide. When QE took hold post-2009 the entire regime shifted and the signals that had generated edge became noise. I had confused a regime-specific edge with a durable one. That experience taught me the importance of identifying when the macro structure has changed rather than assuming one set of signals works across all environments.

What piece of advice would you give your younger self?

Build systems, not views. Views expire; frameworks compound.

What's a fun fact about yourself?

My general mood improved significantly the day I stopped watching CNBC years ago.
