What motivates you every day?
There is a moment in every client's journey where they move from a place of uncertainty, frustration and not knowing to a place of understanding, confidence, joy, and gratitude. That is what drives me on a daily basis, to give clients that moment.
If you could instantly master one skill, what would it be?
Cooking and creating in a kitchen based on taste and smell rather than relying on a recipe.
What is a career "low point" that actually set you up for success?
I started my career at a large wire house back in 2007 and earned my securities license just in time for the financial crisis. I asked a colleague for advice on how I should invest my 401k, and he told me to buy as much company stock as I could because we can get a discount. I didn't take that advice, but that's what he was doing with his. At the time, the stock was trading for about $100 a share. As the financial crisis hit, I quickly learned what risk looked like. That advisor rode his strategy from $100 down to $7, where the company was acquired by a national bank. At the time of the acquisition, they let go of all of their junior advisors, and I started my own business. I learned from that experience what risk looks like, and I also learned that most advisors don't know anything about investing and taking care of clients. It made me want to be different and shaped how I take care of my clients today.
What piece of advice would you give your younger self?
Don't worry, and don't settle. Continue to set big goals, because you will do more and go further by aiming higher than by setting a moderate goal and achieving it. And it will work out.
What's a fun fact about yourself?
I had a short story about discovering King Tut's tomb that I wrote in 4th grade published in a college textbook. My first and last published work (so far).
